First of all, the activities hosted by ESN Rijeka. We organize sports, cultural and leisure activities for all the Erasmus students interested. It is a great way to meet people that share your interests. Make sure not to miss any!

Other than our activities, Rijeka is famous for many events. We pinpointed some of the most visited. 

Brucošijada

Brucošijada is an annual celebration in Rijeka dedicated to welcoming new university students. This lively event, often held in the early autumn, marks the beginning of the academic year with a series of festivities that include live music performances, DJ sets, and various cultural activities. It's a vibrant mix of tradition and modern student culture, providing an excellent opportunity for new students to integrate into the university community, make new friends, and enjoy the energetic atmosphere of Rijeka's student life.

Rijeka Advent 

During the months of November, December and the first part of January, various cultural and entertainment programmes are held in Rijeka. The number of events during this period is growing rapidly every year and the fun is guaranteed on Rijeka’s Korzo and at Trsat Castle.

Night of Museums

Night of Museums in Croatia is a cultural event organised annually and throughout Croatia which offers free entry into museums, galleries and other cultural institutions. Night of Museums is held on the last Friday in January from 6 pm to 1am and annually has roughly 300 000 visitors all over Croatia. Several museums in Rijeka offer free entrance during Night of Museums, including Natural History Museum, The Maritime and History Museum, City Museum of Rijeka, Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Peek&Poke computer and technology museum, as some others.

Ri Rock

Ri Rock is a renowned rock music festival held annually in Rijeka, celebrating the city's vibrant and diverse music scene. Established in the late 1970s, Ri Rock has become a cornerstone event for rock enthusiasts, featuring performances from both established bands and emerging local talent. The festival showcases a wide range of rock genres, from classic rock to alternative and punk. Known for its energetic atmosphere and passionate crowds, Ri Rock not only highlights the musical talent in Rijeka but also fosters a sense of community among rock music lovers.

International Carnival Parade 

The Rijeka Carnival (or Riječki karneval in Croatian) is the biggest and most famous carnival in Croatia. It is held each year between late January and early March, and there are numerous events preceding the carnival itself, including lots of smaller parades in towns and villages surrounding Rijeka. The main, international carnival parade is held on the last Sunday before the Ash Wednesday. During the main parade Rijeka’s downtown is occupied with hundreds of allegorical floats, thousands of masks and more than 10 000 participants, including young and old. It is difficult to describe the Rijeka Carnival in words or fully capture it in photos or television broadcasts. The Rijeka Carnival must be lived and experienced! So get ready for the Rijeka Carnival – where you can be whatever you want!

Let’s Run (Homo si teć) 

Let’s Run is an annual street race in which several thousand citizens participate. Besides the main race in the city center, Rijeka organizes a marathon and a half-marathon, as well as the Hendi Cup and the Ciciban Cup, a race for the youngest. 

Fiumanka

Fiumanka is a prominent annual sailing regatta held in Rijeka, attracting sailors and sailing enthusiasts from around the world. This prestigious event typically takes place in early June and features several days of competitive sailing races in the picturesque waters of Kvarner Bay. Fiumanka isn't just about the competition; it also includes a variety of maritime-themed activities and social events. Spectators can enjoy onshore festivities such as live music, exhibitions, and a lively atmosphere that celebrates Rijeka's strong maritime heritage. Whether you're a seasoned sailor or a casual observer, Fiumanka offers a thrilling and engaging experience for all who attend.

Student Day Festival

The Student Day Festival is a two day event happening in the end of May which includes free concerts, sports and culture. During this weekend lots of different workshops and educational activities are held in Rijeka. Student Day Festival is the biggest student festival in Croatia, and like its name implies, it is mostly visited by students but there are lots of young people beside students that visit this event, including people from all over Croatia and neighbouring countries. In the evening one part of Rijeka's port transforms into two big stages for concerts and electronic music. All the concerts are, of course, free!

Trsat Days (Dani Trsata)

Dani Trsata, or Trsat Days, is an annual cultural festival held in the historic Trsat district of Rijeka, Croatia. This vibrant event features live music, folklore performances, art exhibitions, and local cuisine. A key highlight is the "Povratak Frankopana" (Return of the Frankopans), which honors the historic Frankopan family and their legacy in the region. This event features a variety of activities including historical reenactments, medieval fairs, knight tournaments, and educational workshops along with dance and music performances. Set against the picturesque Trsat Castle and the Church of Our Lady of Trsat, the festival offers a rich blend of tradition and contemporary culture, fostering community pride and unity.

Summer on Gradina (Ljeto na Gradini)

Ljeto na Gradini is a beloved summer festival set in the picturesque Trsat Castle in Rijeka. Running throughout the summer months, this event offers a rich program of cultural and entertainment activities, including open-air concerts, theatrical performances, art exhibitions, and film screenings. The historic setting of Trsat Castle, combined with the warm summer nights, creates a magical ambiance that attracts both locals and tourists. It's a perfect occasion to enjoy the arts in a unique and historic environment.
